A Journey Through Soundscapes Inspired by Desert Landscapes

This new track is a testament to Gallagher's unique ability to blend diverse musical elements into a cohesive and evocative soundscape.

"Inner Planets" is a looping bassline-driven song inspired by arid desert landscapes and rich interior oases. The track features interweaving guitar and cello melodies over a processed electronic soundscape, creating a sonic journey that, much like a trek through the desert, remains constant while subtly shifting. Written during the late summer of 2020, "Inner Planets" emerged as a form of escape to an imagined sanctuary, offering a balm of inner peace amid an uncertain and chaotic reality.

Ross Gallagher's musical journey began with a deep appreciation for jazz music from the 1960s, particularly the works of Ornette Coleman, Keith Jarrett, and Charles Lloyd. This early influence drew him towards musical environments constructed around strong melodies, where the individual interpretation of those melodies by each band member collectively dictates the form and architecture of the music. Gallagher's previous achievements include features in Bandcamp Weekly and collaborations with renowned artists such as Paula Cole, Madeleine Peyroux, Joe Henry, John Smith, Marc Ribot, and Andrew D'Angelo. He has also performed with Terri Lynn Carrington, Valerie Simpson, Nels Cline, David Virelles, and Aaron Parks.

To celebrate the release of "Inner Planets," Gallagher has planned several activities. These include a series of release shows in August, featuring a trio setup with guitar, bass, and drums, complemented by electronics. The highlight of these events will be the official 'neon night' album release show on August 30th at SPACE Gallery in Portland, ME. This special performance will feature strings (violin, viola, cello) and a co-bill with Grammy-winning producer and singer/songwriter Joe Henry.
