"Cheap Souvenirs" draws inspiration from a rich tapestry of musical influences, including Soukous guitars, Talking Heads, and West African rhythms. The album is a dreamy, free-flowing exploration where harmonized vocals meet the distinctive sounds of Moog synthesizers and African percussion instruments such as mbiras and talking drums.
Colmeia, hailing from Norrköping and Stockholm, Sweden, is a seven-piece ensemble that captivates audiences with their harmonious vocals, supported by flute, guitar, keys, bass, and drums. Their innovative sound is further enriched by the inclusion of African percussion elements like udu and talking drums, creating a truly global musical experience.
The band first gained attention with their 2019 album "Big Bird Loud Tweets" and continued to build their reputation with their music featured in the 2021 documentary "Jikubali." With "Cheap Souvenirs," Colmeia offers an unprecedented fusion of Scandinavian pop and Congolese soukous, as noted by Djolo.net, which described their music as "an undoubtedly unprecedented fusion."
Lira Music Magazine, www.lira.se, praised the band's vocal harmonies, stating, "The three-part vocals are tight and feel like a cool breeze." The lineup features the talented singers My Ericsson, Matilda Persson, and Emilie Ilis Hedgärd, alongside guitarist Henric Bellinger, creative keyboardist Per Kolsgård, bassist Patrik Hanson, and drummer Gustav Pettersson, all contributing to an atmosphere and groove that resonates deeply with listeners.
"Colmeia's 'Cheap Souvenirs' is a testament to the power of music to transcend cultural boundaries and bring people together," said Abdullah Geels, CEO of AudioMaze. "We are thrilled to support such innovative artists who are redefining the global music landscape."
AudioMaze, founded in 2004, remains committed to its mission of sharing music that transcends boundaries, helping artists from around the world reach new audiences. With "Cheap Souvenirs," Colmeia exemplifies this mission, offering listeners a captivating journey through diverse musical landscapes.
